In January 2023, they came to us with a new website, looking to improve their organic rankings and to generate leads fast.
The Problem
This client was a new brand with a new website. They faced the following 3 major challenges:
- The newly launched website had minimal authority with Google, which made it difficult to compete in search against established energy providers. At the time, they had 155 indexed pages while their competitors had 400-2,000+.
- Since this client helps small and medium-sized businesses find better contracts and energy suppliers, they needed a commercial-focused SEO strategy to target their ideal customers.
- Since the client was a newly created brand, they needed to drive revenue quickly. They needed more than just website traffic; they needed quality leads that could convert to revenue quickly.

The Solution
We knew we had a tall task ahead of us. We had to find a way to get this brand-new website to rank for commercial and transactional intent keywords to generate quality leads. We needed to craft a successful SEO strategy that focused on getting our site in front of small and medium-sized commercial businesses in key locations across the country.
We started with a competitive landscape analysis to understand where the client was lacking compared to their more established competitors. We identified 3 key gaps:
- Content depth and coverage: Competitors were publishing hundreds to thousands of indexed pages, covering all different topics in the world of energy, while our client had around 155.
- Authority and trust signals: As a new brand, this client lacked the established credibility of these legacy energy providers. We needed to find a way to show Google that our client is an authority figure in the industry.
- Keyword funnel gaps: The existing content on the site only touched the surface. At the time, our client was only publishing 2 blogs per month, leaving a lot of commercial and transactional search keywords relatively unaddressed.
After this analysis, our recommendation was to ramp up content production using Google’s EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) guidelines. This content was focused on positioning our client as a subject matter expert in everything energy to rank for commercial, transactional, and educational keywords.
The goal was to produce 50 of these blogs in 4-6 months. This strategy would quickly expand our client’s organic search visibility and build brand authority, both of which would improve organic search rankings across the board.
The Results
Before this new content strategy was implemented in November 2024, our client appeared in a total of 19 SERP features and ranked in the top 20 for 96 commercial and transactional intent keywords. By July 2025, the data looked a lot different: our client now appeared in 549 SERP features and ranked in the top 20 for 247 commercial and transactional intent keywords. Some of these new SERP features included high-visibility AI Overviews and “People Also Ask” sections for keywords like: “APG&E” with 12,100 monthly searches, “Gexa Energy” with 60,500 monthly searches, and “Houston power company rates” with 4,400 monthly searches.
The organic search wins just kept on coming as impressions in organic search grew from 549,000 in November 2024 to 1,230,000 in July 2025. Organic visits also grew from 236 in November 2024 to 819 in July 2025.

These numbers are great, but what did they mean for our client’s bottom line? Well, these organic searches were having the same revenue impact as our client’s paid campaigns. The leads that were coming in from organic searches were quality leads, 80% of which fell into their highest-value customer range, meaning that these organic search efforts were leading to some of the strongest leads in the pipeline.
